Ready. Set. Learn.
Giant Eagle and Citizens Bank have been partners for more than 30 years, together providing customers with one-stop shopping and banking solutions. This partnership extends to working together to support important community initiatives. Which is why they are excited to join as the presenting sponsors of Ready. Set. Learn.
The Giant Eagle/Citizens Bank relationship began when Citizens acquired 41 Mellon in-store branches in 2001. Those branches had been in operation since 1990 and are roughly 28 years old. The convenience of one-stop shopping is what differentiates them from competitors and what makes the partnership valuable for both partners. Customers who bank and shop at the same place appreciate this convenience and tend to be more loyal to both organizations.
Citizens currently operates 61 in-store branches inside Giant Eagle and Market District stores throughout western Pennsylvania, 90 ATM’s inside GetGo and 30 more ATM’s in stores where there is not a branch.
Besides the retail partnership, Giant Eagle and Citizens Bank have made great strides in impacting their communities through the combined efforts of their organizations.
Sadly, in Southwestern Pennsylvania alone, as many as 1/2 to 2/3 of low-income families do not have computers or laptops for their households, let alone enough for students and parents alike to continue learning and working. The goal is to make online learning attainable for as many of the 55,000 students served by The Education Partnership in Southwestern PA as possible.
Additionally, basic school supplies are also in great demand due to the inability of students to share supplies in their classrooms. The need for individualized school supplies to be provided for students, especially those younger learners who require hands-on materials for the bulk of their education, is enormous in a remote learning environment.
In honor of the 30th Anniversary of the Giant Eagle and Citizens Bank partnership, we are collaborating to launch Ready. Set. Learn. This program connects kids in economically disadvantaged communities with school supplies including laptops and access to technology so they can continue learning from home post-COVID.
Beginning on August 15 and running through September 20, television commercials featured on KDKA will encourage monetary donations through online giving, and text to give options. Additionally, Giant Eagle in-store branches will act as a drop off point for gently used laptops. The Education Partnership will be refurbishing and redistributing these computers to kids in economically disadvantaged communities. At the end of the campaign on September 20, The Education Partnership will bring the computers to Computer Reach who will wipe the hard drives and install a new operating system and software.
