What they often find is something more: an unexpected connection, a small item with a big impact, or exactly what they needed at exactly the right moment. These are a few of those stories, small moments that remind us why this work matters.
While visiting The Education Partnership’s Teacher Resource Center, two teachers crossed paths while filling their carts with classroom supplies. Neither expected to leave with something more valuable than materials.
As both Pittsburgh Public School educators shopped, side by side, the conversation turned to their recent position changes in the district. They found that both had recently been handed the same assignment: launch a brand-new career readiness program at their schools. It’s a growing priority as districts push for stronger workforce readiness, but building a program from nothing is no small task, and doing it alone can feel overwhelming.
What started as small talk quickly became something else. They began comparing notes, swapping ideas, and thinking out loud about what their lesson plans might look like. By the time they reached the checkout, they’d found more than supplies. They’d found a colleague who understood exactly what they were up against.

A special education professional from Banksville Elementary was browsing the shelves when a pair of silly birthday glasses caught her eye. On its own, it’s a small, playful item. But she saw a new tradition in the making.
Now, those glasses will show up whenever a student in her classroom celebrates a birthday. She slips them on, snaps a photo, and hands families a small keepsake that turns an ordinary school day into a memory worth keeping.
It’s proof that impact doesn’t always come from big gestures. Sometimes it’s a pair of donated glasses and a teacher who knows exactly how to use them. Our Teacher Resource Center may put both the essentials and the unexpected surprises into the hands of educators, but it’s the educators who know how to make magic with them.
On day one of the teacher shopping season, we welcomed the homeless liaison for Penn Hills School District Elementary, on her first visit ever to the Teacher Resource Center. She came to the Teacher Resource Center to gather essentials for the families she supports, families navigating some of the hardest circumstances a household can face. Luckily, she found an item that will make all the difference for these families: toilet paper.
For a family whose entire life fits into a backpack, an item like that isn’t a given. It’s a luxury. And when basic supplies are out of reach, that gap can become one more obstacle standing between a family and the fresh start they’re working toward.
Moments like this are the reason our Teacher Resource Center exists, and they’re only possible because of everyone who donates. Thank you for making sure teachers like her never have to choose between supporting their students and going without.

Not long after, two physical education teachers from Carrick walked into the Teacher Resource Center, and it wasn’t long before we could guess what would end up in their carts. For student athletes gearing up for the season, electrolytes are exactly the kind of support that makes a difference.
Their trip didn’t stop there. They also picked up a stack of backpacks from Bazzy & Bubba’s Backpack Brigade, ready to be filled and handed out to student athletes heading into a new season.
Right supplies. Right teachers. Right time. That’s what we call a win.
